Cassie (Cass) Downe completed her Masters in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta in 2016. Prior to that, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario with a strong focus in both exercise physiology and sport psychology. Being a former CIS varsity volleyball athlete and current IST lead with Team Canada Men’s Sitting Volleyball, she has comprehensive first-hand experience with sport injuries and the rehabilitation required to return to an optimal level of function. Additionally, she has significant experience treating tactical professionals and first responders. As a result, she understands the unusual stressors required to perform optimally for individuals working in this environment and seeking either preventative or rehabilitation services to remain fit for duty.
Her interests include a combination of motor control, active movement and hands on manual therapy, while prescribing appropriate therapeutic exercise that addresses the root or core issues. Cass is passionate about problem solving and ensuring the issue at hand is being assessed and treated thoroughly, not simply chasing symptoms. She has been certified in dry needling and spinal manipulation, in addition to gait analysis/re-training and blood flow restriction training. She has extensive education surrounding lower limb mechanics (hip, ankle and foot pathologies) in addition to shoulder specific and upper limb injuries.
Outside of work, Cass can be found partaking in a wide variety of activities. Her time off is spent in the mountains either mountain biking, gravel biking or back country skiing, and sometimes out in the country skeet shooting, bird hunting or fishing. In the city she coaches and sits on the board of directors for the DINOS volleyball club.
